A long time ago, credit did not have such a large place in society. Now, though, it is important that people have a strong credit history because at one time or another, they are going to have to pass a credit check.

Finding out that a prospective employer is going to perform a credit check can put the fear in many people. More than ever, employers are protecting themselves by checking the credit of applicants before they hire them.
Many employers feel that a lot can be said about the integrity of a new employee based on their credit report. If an individual does not pay their bills on time, it is reasoned, they will then not be an employee that can be counted on.
Promotion
Just because you have a job does not mean that you can let your credit go astray. Many employers also run a credit check before they will promote their current employees. This is because many employers feel that those who have bad credit will be a bad choice to take on added responsibility.
Renting an Apartment
Buying is not the only thing that people need to have good credit for. Most rental companies are going to check a new tenant’s credit before they let them move in. If the credit is not good enough, they will not take that person on as a tenant.
Cell Phones
Cell phone companies also run a credit check to make sure that new users pay their bills on time. If a new customer does not pass the credit check, he will either be denied or have to pay a deposit. Denial can result in consumers having to use a prepaid cell phone, which is a much more expensive route than getting on a plan.
Utilities
Bad credit will also equal a deposit for utilities. Utility companies charge different amounts for deposits for these customers, and the money is not given back until the utilities are turned off. This can be very expensive for a customer who is moving into a new home.
Student Loans
Many people assume that student loans are easy to get. However, students with bad credit will have to pay their own way through school without getting a loan. Private lending companies run credit checks and they will not release funds to students with bad credit.
In life, a credit check comes up all of the time. It is incredibly important to be able to pass such a check in order to function in society. Without being able to pass a credit check, people will have a difficult time navigating through life.
